Sustainable, local, organic. Rotary members learned that SLO Farmers Co-op is working hard to spread the word on the importance of having locally sourced food available in our communities. Many thanks to Rachel Baranczyk for sharing this important message with us, and for allowing us to raffle off a box of meat to our membership.
SLO Farmers Co-op is headquartered in western Brown County and includes seven small family farms that work together to bring their produce to markets. The co-op prides itself on sustainable farming practices that do not use pesticides and livestock practices that do not include use of antibiotics and hormones. It offers a monthly meat share and weekly vegetable share and its farmers are featured at many area farmers markets. Rachel is working with regional initiatives to improve health through food, as well as spread the word through partnerships with chefs, fitness centers and physicians.
